Northallerton barber raises hundreds for CLIC Sergant cancer charity

A BARBER shop owner who cut hair day and night over a mammoth, 24-hour “cutathon” has raised £1,500 for charity.

Hollie Sutton, who runs Holl & Co on Northallerton High Street, cut someone’s hair every 15 minutes in a bid to raise money for the charity CLIC Sergant.

The charity provides cancer support for the young, and has helped her friend Will Banks, from Northallerton, who was diagnosed with lymphoma in August 2015 at the age of 22.

Hollie began cutting her task at 9pm on Friday, November 10 and went on to carry out nearly 100 haircuts before finishing at 9pm the following day. A fundraising raffle was also held.

She was able to present the £1,500 raised to Lindsay Kay, the charity’s fundraising manager for the North-East and Cumbria.

CLIC Sergant provides a range of support to children and young people diagnosed with cancer and their families. It includes providing care teams who give expert support tailored to each young person and their family following a cancer diagnosis.

The charity can also arrange for treatment to be given closer to home, or provide Homes from Home for patients and families during treatment to reduce the financial cost and emotional strain.

Last year the charity supported 428 new or relapsed children and young people with cancer in the region and gave more than £61,000 in grants to help families deal with the financial impact of cancer.
