Northallerton Library

The current library opened to the public on 24th October 1977…”and its success has been even greater than was expected. By the end of the fourth week, approximately 7000 people had registered as readers (more than 46% of the combined population of Northallerton, Romanby and Brompton)”. On the 1st of December 1977 the library was visited by Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Kent.

The library offers access to a variety of books and information for adults, teenagers and children, including printed books, audiobooks and books in large print format and free access to wifi and public computers. The library also offers regular activities and events, including storytimes, class visits and special events. Most importantly, joining the library is free and it take only a few minutes. A library card gives access to a large variety of free online resources including newspapers, magazines, eBooks, eAudiobooks, encyclopedias and business information. Finding the library, parking and access

The library is at the south end of the High Street, at the junction of South Parade, Thirsk Road and High Street. The library is opposite Tesco. Buses stop on the High Street and the railway station is a ten minute walk away.

There is no parking at the library, but two spaces are available for disabled users at the rear of the building. Entrance to this car park is on Grammar School Lane. Access to the rear of the library is via a ramp which lone wheelchair users may find difficult. The nearest parking is at Tesco opposite, which has a two hour time limit. Further parking is available in the town centre and is clearly signposted.

The library has automatic doors and all areas are accessible to wheelchairs. A lift is available between floors.
