Tribute to Charles Barker

Northallerton’s central shopping area came to a halt to honour Charles Barker, one of the town’s inspirational entrepreneurs, who passed away after a long battle with cancer. 

Dozens lined the route to pay respects as his funeral cortege passed up the High Street on its way to the service in Darlington.

As Managing Director of Barkers, Charles cared passionately about the town and led the way on so many fronts. He was a founder director and guiding light in the establishment of Northallerton BID and maintained a keen interest in its development.

BID Chair Lindsay Judd led the tributes: “Charles was rightly recognised as a visionary and has left as lasting impression on Northallerton. Everytone who works in the centre of our community will share in his loss and we send our condolences to Melanie, Charlotte, Guy and his many colleagues.”
