FLIPPIN’ FANTASTIC Record entries for Pancake Race
RECORD ENTRIES AT LOVE NORTHALLERTON PANCAKE RACE
There were thrills and spills galore in a flippin’ fantastic Love Northallerton Pancake Race.
A record number of the town’s business house teams, many in fancy dress, took part in the Shrove Tuesday fun at the Applegarth in an event covered live by BBC Radio York.
There were so many entries, organisers Northallerton BID had to split the races into three heats in front of a large crowd of supporters and cheering schoolchildren.
Barkers are celebrating a double, with Christopher ‘Percy’ Percival winning the men’s race and Polly Wilkinson judged to have the best fancy-dress costume. The women’s winner was Angela Hayes from Hambleton Community Action, three-legged winners were Sam and Jonathan Hutson from Colin Hutson Accounting and winner of the fancy-dress race was Sabrina McKee from Lewis & Cooper.
The event raised £120.33 for popular local charity Hambleton Foodshare and was preceded by junior races for Applegarth Primary School.
“Congratulations to all our winners and to everyone who took part,” said BID manager Graham Bell. “It was our best pancake race ever after a two-year break caused by the pandemic.
“Special thanks go to Northallerton Town Council for laying out the course, to our home-grown Olympics star Scott Lincoln for starting the races and to the Mayor of Northallerton, Cllr Phil Eames, for presenting the prizes. Huge thanks also go to our sponsors – Tesco Northallerton for donating hundreds of pancakes and Colin Hutson Accounting and Clark Willis Law Firm for supporting our prize fund.
“We can’t wait to do it all again in 2023!”
